Families looking for an entertaining “staycation” option and an easy way to support merchants of downtown Ridgefield can kill two birds with one stone on July 18. The Chamber of Commerce will host the 15th annual Sale-A-Bration from noon to 6 p.m., closing Bailey Avenue to traffic and lining the sidewalks with more than 25 vendors. Food from local vendors and sales on many stores’ merchandise, complemented by a Beatles cover band from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., will attract residents of both Ridgefield and surrounding towns. Starting off with a bang, The Bar and Grill on 7 — or B&G on 7, as it’s shortened on the sign — celebrated its grand opening this past weekend. Inhabiting the space formerly occupied by The Catch, on Route 7 just south of the intersection of Rt. 7 and Rt. 35, B&G on 7 presents itself as a different kind of sports bar. Occasional live music on the weekends, an outdoor patio, and more salads than burgers on the menu are the three things that caught my eye. The restaurant is open 11:30 a.m. till 10 p.m. on weekday nights, and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings.

The Ridgefield Farmers Market moves into full swing in its second season.
Connecticut’s 88th Farmers Market, located in the heart of Ridgefield, has been unveiled again for the summer, where more than a dozen statewide vendors hoist up the backs of their trucks and display their finest homegrown items. Among the merchants with be the Hickories (aka Brewster Farm), the last working farm in Ridgefield. While most farmers will offer season-fresh produce, some will bring eggs, cheese, fresh breads, herbs, artisan goods, and even pasture-fed beef, pork, and chicken.
