On a morning like today, with snow suddenly falling down out of nowhere (was in the forecast???) the house feels sad and dark and I am really ready for Spring. Spring like in: more light and no more of 3 layers of sweaters and wool cable Uggs worn at home.

So it made me very happy to find this picture. How big is this lamp? And how cool? Is that a forest painted inside it? I guess it can not only illuminate a city block or two but also gives warmth! I want to be under this thing!

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten

With all of the recent debate over full vs. half-day Kindergarten, what came to my mind was this:
Share everything.
Play fair.
Don’t hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don’t take things that aren’t yours.
Say sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life.

A Dog Training “Field Trip”? Where Does Fido Sign Up?

Redding resident Janet Metzger  conducts dog obedience classes through the Ridgefield Parks and Recreation department.  According to Metzger, “For the last class [we go on a] field trip and practice our skills in public where there are distractions.  The dogs have an opportunity to practice properly sitting at the corner before they cross the street.”  Metzger also praises The Town Hall which allows the dogs and their handler’s entrance so that they can familiarize them with proper behavior inside of a public building, “They’re wonderful!” she adds.

Irish Eyes will be Smiling at the Aldrich

Be transported to the Emerald Isle by Irish food and drink and lots of Irish song, then enjoy a docent-led tour of Irish artist Tom Molloy’s evocative exhibition at 7:00 pm.
