About Last Night
Pulling into Bernard’s at about 8 pm last night and seeing the line of cars, you would have thought: Wedding? Private party? No. Just a busy Friday evening in January. With standing room only at Sarah’s Wine Bar, and a long line of people awaiting tables, the four of us decided to retrieve our two cars (engines still warm) from the busy valet attendant.
Where to now? A few text messages flew back and forth and we decided to hit Main Street and try The Bissell House. By now, it was 8:30 pm, and while The Bissell House was crowded, indeed there was a table for 4 available.
Our waiter, Tom, was eager to please. Within a few minutes, we were busy chatting, browsing at menus and enjoying a bottle of wine. Tom took our orders: two of the Farmer’s Market Chopped Salad with shrimp, Black Angus Sirloin Steak, and All Day Braised Short Ribs.
Lots of chatting ensued between sips of wine. By the time our meals arrived, we had the entire world figured out: religion, politics, kids, family (if it could only be that easy).
It was agreed, the salads were phenomenal. While the All Day Ribs were also a big hit, the steak was not. In fact, it was called “tough” and “flavorless”.
Tom checked on us regularly. In good New Year conscience, we declined dessert. What I would, if I could? The warm apple crisp: vanilla bean ice cream drizzled with caramel.
Credit card was given, receipt signed. Where to now? It was Friday night. Can’t go home at 10. We decided to retreat to one of our homes, kick our feet up and you got it, sip on some more Cabernet. Home by midnight and feeling good.
Some Bissell House specials: Tuesdays b.y.o.w. (bring your own wine) No corkage fee. Wine Down Wednesdays: bottled wines are half price. Thank You Thursdays: complimentary dessert with your entree.

What did you do last night?

Dinner at Sagi with friends, had some tasty Red Snapper! Though I did wish I could have had the grilled artichoke from Bissel.
