THE TALK’S GAME OF TAG

tag 1

In the Blogging world, an interesting phenomenon is occurring which confirms the power of the shared space, our community on the Internet.  Bloggers big and small are engaging in a game of tag, and we’re going to get into the fun.

Here’s how it works.  The Talk of Our Town will start this game of blog tag by nominating 5 blogs we admire and follow regularly.  Once tagged, each of the 5 will tell 10 things about themselves and their site before tagging 5 more to do the same.  The object of the game?  We’re joining hands and making the intangible world, the world of words and notions as they appear in the cyberspace, become more visible and accessible.  By acknowledging each other, you our readers will be introduced to more of what is making the blogosphere so rich and entertaining.  The more we learn from others, the deeper and more meaningful our experience will be on Talk of Our Town.

Before we start–  we’re asking the blogs we tag to say 1o things about themselves, so in the spirit of the share, here are 10 things about the Talk of Our Town.

1 – Your Editor, Kerry Anne, has 2 dogs, as does her humble servant, Charlotte.  We believe that Ridgefield would not  be the town it is without its community of dogs.

2 – Kerry Anne is the Curator/Editor of Ridgefield at 300: A Celebratory Year in Pictures.  Have you read through our town’s great tribute book?  It’s gorgeous!

3 – Ridgefield’s Talk of Our Town wants to be a resource for what is special about Ridgefield, and our stories will touch on every angle – except for taking sides in politics!

4 – That said, Talk of Our Town considers it a great day when we get lots of rich and divergent comments from our readers.  Just because we don’t want to be home to a particular point of view doesn’t mean we won’t welcome yours.  Check out the comments elicited from the seemingly innocuous post about activity on Main Street:   A Coffee Shop on Main Street Seems Like a “No Brainer”Main Street during the holiday season

5 – Kerry Anne posted her maiden Talk of Our Town piece in April of 2009 using a banner of the American flag as a template for Ridgefield, an all American town (does anyone remember that?); and Facebook was her primary marketing channel.  Within a month, we had as many as 600 hits and 40 members on our Facebook fanpage.  Today, we have 3,400  hits a month and nearly 300 Face book fans.

6 – The posts that bring the most readers to Talk of Our Town are – guess what kind – RESTAURANT REVIEWS.  We love that our town is a destination for diners.  Ridgefield has better restaurants inside its 35 square-mile perimeter than, we’d wager, any town of our size in Connecticut.

7.  Talk of Our Town’s panel of experts write 14 websites or blogs between us.

8 – Our first advertiser on Talk of Our Town was Jesse Lee Day School.  We credit much of our success to their willingness to invest in the value of our blog.

9 – Kerry Anne, longtime writer for Ridgefield Magazine, broached the idea of a blog to Editor Geoffrey Morris.  Not only did Geoffrey bless the launch, he inspired our research and development and has contributed content, support and acknowledgment every step of the way.

10 – The Talk of Our Town was born from a desire to celebrate every day of Ridgefield, as a community of diverse, interesting, unique, proud, artistic, clever, open people.  We thank this community from our very core for welcoming The Talk of Our Town with such enthusiasm.  Please, pass it on!
