Operation Haiti

When a group of physicians from Long Island asked Dr. Robert Brady to accompany them to help earthquake victims in Port au Prince, Haiti, Brady didn’t hesitate with his response. “I have a reputation for doing these charitable missions and they needed an orthopedic surgeon,” Brady humbly explains.

Brady, who is no stranger to taking philanthropic journeys around the globe to help those in need, found this trip to be one of his most difficult yet. “I’ve worked in third world nations before, but this was the first time that I’ve seen an infrastructure so disorganized. The doctors and nurses were so overwhelmed that they …

You are what they eat!
by Joe Ancona, The Food Guy

All Natural Hamburgers
With the warm weather coming backyard grilling will soon be back in season and that means hamburgers and hot dogs will soon be back on everyone’s menu. While it’s easy to find a low price on ground beef and pre-made hamburgers what isn’t always easy to determine is the quality of the product. Their counter-part, hot dogs have long had the reputation as “mystery meat” but the truth is most don’t know where hamburgers come from.

The dark ages of the 21st century?  Could it be, in this information age, …

So, How’s Your Doggie Dealing with the Rain?

I don’t know about you, but my dog has been “holding it” for days now.   Does the local pet store sell “doggie umbrellas”?

I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.
I step very softly,
I walk very slow,
I can’t do a handstand–…

Here, at the  Garden of Ideas, we get our weather reports  from Bill Felker, Poor Will’s Almanack He writes that:
Waiting for spring can be like trying to go to sleep when you have insomnia.
How true!    In my 25 years of working outside, I haven’t seen a March like this.  Our hoop houses are full of quickly germinating crops.

It will make Main Street all that prettier,” says Rodier Flowers owner Mary Jones.  Jones purchased Rodier Flowers at 447 Main Street just under a year ago, sharing her “downstairs” location with GiGi Taylor.   She is now taking a flight up, graduating to larger quarters with a storefront at 384 Main Street.

“We will be merchandising and beginning construction right away,”  says Jones.  But, not to worry about where your Easter flowers will come from, “We are not missing a beat!” exclaims Jones.  Rodier Flowers will be operating during the construction phase; accepting orders, designing arrangements and loading …
