Greg Herzog, a former sub four minute miler and conditioning specialist in Beverly Hills, New York City and Ridgefield CT for over 25 years, has worked with competitive athletes, as well as individuals from the ages 5-94, and has made studying human performance his life’s work.

Eleven year old gymnast, Emma Kirchner, has found success this summer as a 13-and-under diver for Lakeside Field Club in North Salem, New York, and the transition was a natural one.
Emma began competitive gymnastics at the age of 7, and currently trains as a Level 8 gymnast at Arena Gymnastics in Stamford. Last year, she was the State Champion for that level and qualified to represent Connecticut at the Regional Championships.
Good luck, Emma — both in the gym and in the pool!

Answer: Complete a 191 mile relay race!
On May 21st and 22nd, the “Ridgefield Racy Ladies” ran 191 miles in the New England Ragnar Relay — from Branford, Connecticut to Foxboro, Massachusetts. Each team member ran three legs, ranging between 3 and 8 miles. Originally billed as a Yale to Harvard Relay, the New England Ragnar Relay raised money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hartford.
The Racy Ladies finished in 30 hours and 8 minutes. When not running, the team members rode along the race course in two vans labeled, “12 Moms, 35 Kids, 85 missed games, 1,200 missed e-mails.” The race was physically and …

After three seasons of coaching the Ridgefield Rockers, the U-13 Girls Soccer Team for the Soccer Club of Ridgefield (SCOR), Fernando Luis, their soccer coach and Ridgefield High School’s Resources Officer, had a idea. Having coached and worked with Ridgefield’s tweens and teens for years, Officer/Coach Luis had rarely seen such cohesion among this age group of girls. This group of 19 Scotts Ridge and East Ridge Middle Schools’ girls were special: hardworking, supportive teammates and, now friends. ”These girls are an amazing group, they all get along so well, and I feel fortunate for the opportunity to coach them,” thought Coach Luis. The girls had grown both on and off the field, worked together as a team, …

Today starts a scheduling change in the World Cup: the final pair of matches in each group are played simultaneously. Having “married into soccer,” I started to wonder why, and did some research. In a 1982 World Cup game against West Germany and Austria, the last match of the grouping, both teams knew that a West German victory by 1 or 2 goals would result in both teams advancing — any fewer and West Germany was out, any more and Austria was out. Instead of one of the hardest-fought matches in World Cup history, West Germany scored a goal at about the 10 minute mark, and after that both …

Soccer (or football, as it is known in most other countries throughout the world): Americans usually love it or hate it – but they cannot deny the 2010 FIFA World Cup, commonly just called The World Cup, will be the most widely viewed sporting event in the world (an estimated 715.1 million people watched the 2006 World Cup Final in Germany). Held every four years, the World Cup, is an international football competition contested by the men’s national teams of the members of FIFA (International Federation of Association Football), the sport’s global governing body.

Ridgefield Reds 12 Bethel Braves 1
The Ridgefield Reds displayed a powerful offense and excellent pitching in a 12 to 1 victory over the Bethel Braves in men’s baseball action this past weekend. Reds pitchers Stephan Rapaglia and Rich Sammon kept the Braves hitters off balance all day allowing only seven hits and no bases on balls.
The Reds got off to a fast start by scoring six runs in the first inning with run scoring hits by John Boscia, Mike McCormick, Pete Rowan and Paul Gibbins. The Reds capped the game with a five run ninth inning rally begun …
