Our Town as a Food Destination

by Barbara Poole

When I moved to Ridgefield in 1995, I remember that it was known around the region as the place to spend a leisurely day browsing through the many antiques stores.  A map was produced with a listing of locations and specialties.   Now, more than a decade later, there’s a new reason to come to Ridgefield – fine dining.  It’s all good, happy customers and increased retail revenues for merchants.

Over the past year, many fine food  shops have decided to call Ridgefield home….and the foodies amongst us could not be happier!  Ross Bread, The 109 Cheese Shop, Ridgefield Prime, The Cake Box, soon to be …

Luc’s Mussels… A Craving, Satisfied

by Terri Woods Garlick

On Friday night, my husband and I went to Luc’s Cafe/Restaurant for a late dinner.  As always, it was bustling just like the bistros on the streets of Paris… Edith Piaf was singing, waiters were hustling, and patrons were milling-around waiting for a table — drinking, eating and laughing.  To complete the perfect evening with my husband, all I needed was a glass of wine, some bread and a big bowl of their mussels.   We got a table for two on the patio, and ordered.  Jokingly, or so I thought, the waiter came back and told us the kitchen had run out of mussels.  “No, that can’t be,” I stammered, but he assured …

by Terri Woods Garlick

Soccer (or football, as it is known in most other countries throughout the world):  Americans usually love it or hate it – but they cannot deny the 2010 FIFA World Cup,  commonly just called The World Cup, will be the most widely viewed sporting event in the world (an estimated 715.1 million people watched the 2006 World Cup Final in Germany).  Held every four years, the World Cup, is an international football competition contested by the men’s national teams of the members of FIFA (International Federation of Association Football), the sport’s global governing body.

by Charlotte Alston Legg

Living a gluten-free lifestyle is becoming more and more common; these days gluten-free products have a grocery aisle of their own.  But it’s one thing to buy the heavily marketed (and price-tagged) products, another thing entirely to feel comfortable navigating the gluten-free waters in your own kitchen.

Mary Herrington and Regina Shula, partners of  the newly reopened Cogolulu Cafe’ are pleased to announce some fun events in June - cooking classes sure to be instructional, delicious, and knowing Mary and Regina, entertaining!  Whether it’s the gluten-free guest coming for dinner or dealing with your own diagnosis of intolerance, come let these two give you a lesson or two.  The …

The Perennial Chef on Main Street!

I just enjoyed a beautiful lunch at The Perennial Chef.  After much deliberation, I chose a few salads: smoked chicken and lentil along with a sampling of  jasmine vegetable rice.  What a treat , healthy and delicious.  The smoked chicken took the prize.  The chicken was thinly sliced with tossed onions and a very light mayonnaise dressing.
I finished off my lunch with macaroons, both lemon and mocha (my favorite), and a tall latte.
Stop by and let us know at Talk of Our Town how you liked it.
Chef Michael will offer the following specials on Monday:
Chilean Sea …
