Gardens at The Aldrich and Beyond

by Priscilla Matthews Garden enthusiasts are invited to join curator Mónica Ramírez-Montagut for tours of the flourishing sustainable gardens at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, followed by visits to two local organic gardens. The Aldrich’s exhibition by artist Fritz Haeg, Something for Everyone, presents five projects designed to reconnect people with plants and animals, informing a vision for a more sustainable, interconnected, and grounded future. The projects are models anyone can implement at home with modest means.

TOUR THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN WITH THE ALDRICH

The Aldrich invites its members to join Ridgefield resident Todd Forrest, Vice President for Horticulture and Living Collections at the New York Botanical Garden, as he leads a tour of the Garden on Tuesday, July 27, from 3:30 to 5 pm. The group will enjoy a tram tour of the entire Garden, followed by a walking tour of select gardens and the Conservatory.

Forrest is responsible for the Horticulture Division’s programs and activities, including the ongoing stewardship and development of fifty gardens, collections, and displays across the Garden’s 250-acre National Historic Landmark landscape. Multi- Arts Summer Camp at The Ridgefield Guild of Artists

Looking for a great experience for your child this summer?

The RGOA camp runs through August 13th and is organized by weekly classes (2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon). Kids have a choice of staying from 10-3 or taking a morning session (10-12) or the afternoon session (1-3). A lunch hour can be added for the kids taking the half-sessions — they can come in earlier or stay later for the hour lunch (12-1).

This Sunday, July 11 is a special opportunity to catch an Off Broadway production and have someone else drive!  Tickets are still available to see C.S. Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters at The Westside theater in NYC THIS SUNDAY.  The Screwtape Letters is the provocative and wickedly funny theatrical adaptation of the C.S. Meet Fiction Writer David Goodwillie at The Aldrich Museum

Contemporary fiction will be the topic of The Aldrich’s Creative Conversation on Thursday, July 8, at 7 pm, when author David Goodwillie will discuss the state of fiction today with his editor. Goodwillie’s debut novel, American Subversive, was published in April. He is also the author of an acclaimed memoir, Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time.

Video art pioneer Beryl Korot opened her new exhibition at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum yesterday.  The exhibit will run through January 2, 2011.

One of the most important innovators in the realm of video art, Korot’s videos reflect her interest on how our communication tools mirror the way we present and receive information.

Korot’s exhibition, Text/Weave/Line-Video, 1977-2010, presents both her latest body of work and the five-channel weaving/video work, Text and Commentary, which premiered at the Leo Castelli Gallery in 1977. The artist will discuss her process and the evolution of her work since 1977; three new Art 21 documentary videos featuring Korot’s work will be screened.
